I still remember my first teriyaki as a kid (let's just say it's been awhile).
Looking back, it's easy to see the seeds of Zen in my first teriyaki bowls shared with my father. When opening my first Zen in 1999, those experiences came to mind.
My inspiration was simple, to create fresh, inexpensive, healthy Japanese food…roll sushi fresh and wok your bowl to order. Do everything fresh, fresh as possible, prepare our sauces & salad dressings from scratch and hand cut the vegetables. Create a hip, high-energy atmosphere using natural materials while using some elements in some unexpected ways. Create an experience that couldn't be matched.
Zen has grown from a single restaurant to four - we've got three in Austin and one in San Antonio, and have plans in place to open more throughout Texas.
So get your chopsticks, there's a revolution going on.
Zen - good food, fast - it's what we do.
A to-go fork is plastic, your food shouldn't be
Zen isn't all that mysterious, it's just the simple idea that affordable never has to mean cheap - the belief that food tastes better when it's made fresh every-day from natural ingredients and served in an environment that doesn't feel plastic or manufactured.
That's why we only use all natural chicken breast and filet mignon, why we chop our vegetables by hand every morning and hand-craft our sauces in small batches daily.
It's why we put just as much thought into where you're eating as what you're eating. After all, food tastes better when you're surrounded by natural woods and curving lines, by stone and steel and concrete.
Walk into a Zen, you'll know what we're talking about…
Not all chickens are created equal
We've got nothing to hide. That's why when you walk into our restaurants you see and hear the kitchen first. The woks sizzle, flames leap up, and sushi get's rolled, all before your eyes.
And while we know you'll taste the difference when it's all natural chicken breast and vegetables that have been chopped fresh that morning, we hope you feel the difference as well. After all, a healthy customer is a customer for life, a very long life…
Design
The design reflects the food - simple, natural, organic materials uniquely combined to stimulate and elevate the senses. In each Zen the same essential elements - grainy knotty woods, stained concrete, rich colors - come together to create a space that feeds more than just your sense of taste.
Zen, because the whole is greater than the sum of its parts!
